It's wee hours of the morning and despite a weekend , my mind is restless, turbulent and feeling claustrophobic ! Iam sitting pondering where are we as a country getting at ? with due obeisance to the candle march's and video bytes, i think we are still much much away from fixing the cause that created furore of such proportion !
Public outcry for a death sentence to the 6 accused is but natural but sounds tad myopic and distant from the root cause!
so who are we blaming at ? the accused ? for sure but does the buck stops here ? does a death penalty serve the very purpose to check no such gruesome incidents reoccur in future ? will it bring the much desired safety to the women of this country ? Iam afraid NO !
The Immediate checkpoints in my views lies in honestly re engineering
1) the police systems and enforcement
2) The rapid Judicial disposals!
First the Indian policing : what kind of imagery does an average indian has about its neighbouring police stations and the cops ? anti people, indifferent , corrupt and callous in 99 % of the cases. criminals regardless of the crime they commit take optimal advantage of this fact. on the other hand the aam aadmi thinks five hundred times to go report in the police station should any unpleasant incident happens ! how then , do you expect the permanent safety and security of people including women in a toxic environment like this ? unless The netas and the powers that be including the media pulls a no nonsense string over the policing format and make it people friendly, iam afraid we will be unable to check such incidences no matter how many candle marches and sloganeering take place. its a momentary outcry that fades away and The law enforcers know this better than you and I .
The judiciary : i don't think we have reasons enough to call ourselves a growing democracy. not at least now ! we are a rapidly declining moral deficits that play in the hands of archaic, lethargic overburdened judicial mechanism thats eroding the country faster that you think !
it wont be an overstatement to say the real protagonists of crime in India today are its judicial systems and the ' don't care a damn' raj infested judges who know they enjoy the maximum , almost formidable immunity !
criminals are smarter and more courages than you and I ! they know this weakness like a back of their hands and no wonder what happens in a country everyday is beyond your imagination! Delhi rape case os only a tip of the iceberg that was Iconised by the media and subsequently taken over by the real brave-hearts ..its students.
theres no point blaming the government if we have to take a practical view! every government that comes into power is largely composed of the select kingpin history sheeters who take the responsibility of protecting you and me once they come to power! how then can you expect a safe country ...a model country devoid of anti social forces ?
Our neighbouring countries China ( despite having double the size of population) and pakistan have civilian crime rate which are peanuts when-compared with India ! why ? the answer lies in the issues raised above !
until we make grass root level corrections in the aforesaid reforms , it would be naive to expect a safe and secure India. is the government listening ?
