THE GREAT INDIAN SCAM FEST

I don’t remember having seen such a weak prime minister. I don't remember having seen a government adorned with so many scams and shameless scandals. I don't remember a weaker opposition who, reason best known to them, prefer to sit with such a muffled voice! As an Indian, I sit shocked as I see the highlights of Dr Manmohan Singh’s press conference on February 17 (2011), which was more of a desperate face saving drill to silence the current media and public outrage!

Dr Singh stands as a person of spotless personal integrity, tainted with a barrage of scams right under his nose! He was unable to give answers with respect to A Raja, Commonwealth Games (CWG) and other scams. The point that emerges is that despite the Indian democracy being head by a spotless person no other than Dr Singh, then why the country is dabbed with so many scandals and scams in a span of just two years?

From the face of it one thing that emerges clear is this not what PM ever approved! He is either vulnerable or spineless to take a stand against the ongoing festivals of corruption! Who then is behind this? If Singh is a mere poppet, who then has the strings of the scam fest in his or may be her hands? Is it the coalition? Is it certain closed coteried veteran congress leaders on whose behest all the recent scam fest happened?

The point then arises, is India worthy of a coalition led government? And if the answer is yes then at what God damn price? The press conference, in question, should best have been avoided for it not only stirred a mockery of the PM and his United Progressive Alliance (UPA), but also infuriated the already outraged India.

How can a PM be kept in dark for entire two years by Telecom Ministry while all the money mills were churning scams over scams day in and day out? Do you buy that? The answer is No! While Raja's second-generation (2G) became the icon of scam fest, there are innumerable serious scandals that await answer by every tax paying Indians!

Adarsh Society, CWG, Army miss appropriations, ISRO spectrum, the Swiss Bank names not being disclosed and Radia episode what then are we actually going through? Is it any different from the despotic regime of Hosni Mubarak or Saddam Hussein with and exception of this being done in an environment of peace and convenience!

What baffles me and more importantly more alarming is the remaining three years of rule that UPA-II is entitled democratically! A simple arithmetic can very well spell out the quanta of forthcoming scams and scandals three years down the line. Media is outraged as much as the people. Point is, why then has been an environment of repeated tolerance and passive attitude by media and opposition!

With people power gathering gravity worldwide, we have reasons to expect a certain level of disagreement and accountability on the account of certain section of media and responsible people. Even if we have learnt a one twentieth lesson from Egypt, in recent times, then I guess collective efforts by media and people can make a difference somewhere and the spectacular festivals of anarchy can be put under check!

WHY TRUST IS SO IMPORTANT IN BUSINESS AND CAREER

Organizations characterized by a high degree of trust are often the most successful. Trust is a big deal in workplaces. If I only had a dime for every time someone said, “I don’t trust so and so” in my coaching work! The word trust means many different things, depending on whom you ask. In my management training, I ask participants to write down 10 words that equate to what trust means to them. I typically get more than 100 different responses. Answers range from integrity, confidence, moral values and predictability to being able to count on someone. When it comes to high-performing teams, I equate trust to someone’s willingness to be open, exposed and “vulnerable.” No matter the definition, one thing everyone agrees on — trust must be earned and it’s much harder to earn than it is to lose. Developing and maintaining trust is critical to success in your career, workplace teams, leadership and business. Trust is the foundation for all things good in workplaces. I ...

KEEP IT SIMPLE SWEATHERT

Avoid micro-management at all costs "I recently flipped through the declassified 'Simple Sabotage Field Manual', published in 1944 by the US Office of Strategic Services, the predecessor to the CIA. It lists numerous strategies that saboteurs in business environments can use to derail progress. Surprisingly, many of those tactics are being used in offices around the world today! "For instance, the manual instructs saboteurs who have infiltrated organisations to "insist on doing everything through channels. Never permit short-cuts to be taken in order to expedite decisions". "It also advocates for being extra cautious and advises that every decision be referred to committees. Managers are advised to "Multiply the procedures and clearances involved in issuing instructions... See that three people have to approve everything where one would do." These instructions might sound outdated, but they’re timeless. 2. Make your ideas fit on the back ...

Why We Need to Watch Leslee Udwin's Documentary India's Daughter

An illogical, misguided outrage has gripped India. Indignant people are railing against a rapist given primetime TV slots, so the country can know his point of view. How is it -- angry people are demanding -- that channels be so TRP hungry, they're willing to allow this disturbed man's innermost thoughts be broadcast on TV? What do they hope to get from this, other than insult the memory of the one who has been immortalised (against her wishes) as India's Braveheart? #nirbhayainsulted they hashtagged, when we gave her rapist so much publicity. So, you are outraged that a documentary on rapists has been made, and is being broadcast. You, and your sensibilities, count themselves among luminaries in the feminist movement, the government, other activists and lawyers. You think the FIR filed by the police saying this film "contains offensive content which should not be broadcast in the interest of maintaining public order," is absolutely correct, and this kind of free...
